About
About Lyoxa
Lyoxa is an association founded in Geneva to make civic engagement more accessible. It was created in response to a shared observation by its founding members: while associations are open to all, many practical obstacles often prevent initiatives from getting off the ground or becoming sustainable.
Our mission is to support those who wish to create, manage or develop an association. We provide personalised advice, practical tools, a resource bank and training courses to enable everyone to get involved in community projects.
We envision a fairer, more sustainable, and inclusive society, where civic engagement plays a central role. A society where people can come together, organise freely, and take collective action to tackle social, environmental, and cultural issues. We believe in collective intelligence, volunteering, and the transformative power of associations.
Lyoxa is built on the values of knowledge-sharing, openness, and mutual support. We champion equitable access to justice, the free exchange of knowledge, and high-quality, needs-based support. Our collective approach seeks to put these principles into practice, both in our internal operations and in the work we do.
We work on these missions in collaboration with various partners, with whom we share a common vision of civic engagement.
How we operate
To carry out its mission, Lyoxa is organised into three main divisions.
The Services Division encompasses direct support activities. It manages requests for personalised advice, organises free consultation sessions, and oversees the equipment library, which enables associations to borrow logistical equipment at affordable rates.
The Research Division focuses on creating and sharing resources. It develops organisational frameworks tailored to the needs of associations, updates practical tools, and organises training courses for both Lyoxa members and beneficiaries.
Finally, the Collective Action Division allows Lyoxa to take an active role in the local community ecosystem. It participates in events and leads or co-develops projects in collaboration with other local stakeholders.
Each division is made up of various sectors. Together, consultants, project managers, and committee members ensure the successful implementation of actions, supported by an executive office.
Where does Lyoxa stand today?
Our organisation is continually growing. Each year, we receive more requests for advice, develop new practical tools, and welcome new people to our team. This momentum reflects the increasing demand for strong support for citizen initiatives in Geneva.
The end of 2024 marked a turning point for us. Faced with an excessive workload that was putting our team of volunteers under strain, we took the difficult but necessary decision to temporarily suspend the acceptance of new requests for advice. This pause allowed us to collectively reflect on a new organisational structure and to initiate our development strategy, which will span several years. Our support activities have now resumed under improved conditions, and we are actively working to consolidate them for the future.
To better understand this pivotal moment and the evolution of our structure, please refer to our 2024 activity report on our “Documents” page.
